Q:
What is the ITS Training Program?
A:
The ITS Training Program offers quality hands-on computer workshops in the use of campus-wide network and communication tools, common personal productivity tools, and resources available through the Internet. Over one hundred computer workshops are offered every quarter. In addition, the ITS Training Program develops detailed documentation for applications available in the Open Access Labs.
Q:
Which application software does the program teach?
A:
There are over a dozen titles to choose from, including a six-part series for each application in the Microsoft Office suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and a three-part series of Microsoft Publisher. Other workshop titles include SPSS (statistical analysis software), Outlook Web Access, Excel Functions and Data Analyses, PowerPoint Crash Course, Excel Financial Investments, Creating a Web Page Using HTML, Adobe Photoshop, Flash, and Dreamweaver.
Q:
I am interested in an application software that you teach, but I do not have the software. What should I do?
A:
All application software, except for the Microsoft Office 2007 applications, taught through our service are currently available in the Open Access Labs on campus.
Q:
Is it okay to go to a workshop if I missed the previous one?
A:
Although you may do so, it is generally not recommended as it is always better to attend all sessions. If you happen to miss a session, it is probably a good idea to review the missed material prior to coming to the next class, out of courtesy for your workshop trainer and fellow student attendees.
Q:
Where can I get the handouts if I missed a workshop?
A:
Each of the hands-on workshops is accompanied by step-by-step instructions and sample data files. You can download the workbooks and data files from the Microsoft Office Web-based Training website. In addition to hands-on workshops, the Training Program develops detailed documentation for some of the applications available in the computer labs. You can access these materials from the Digital Documentation website.

Q:
When are the workshops being offered?
A:
For a complete listing of workshops and dates, pick up one of our schedule brochures, available from any of the Open Access Labs, Library Computer Training Lab, King Hall Computer Training Lab, and Library Palmer Wing Lobby. For a more updated listing, visit the Workshops website.
Q:
Do I get credit or a certificate for taking a workshop?
A:
There is no credit for these workshops. However, a certificate of completion is presented to those who attend all parts of any Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word), SPSS, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Flash workshops. To be eligible for the certificate of completion, all parts of the series must be completed during one single quarter. There are no exceptions.
Q:
Who is eligible to attend?
A:
Eligible attendees include:
- CSULA matriculated students with a CSULA Network/E-mail account and both of the following:
- Cal State L.A. One Card or a State photo ID (e.g., California driver's license or state-issued identification card).
- Current quarter schedule printout from GET.
- CSULA faculty and staff members with a CSULA Network/E-mail account and a Cal State L.A. One Card.
Q:
If I do not understand some parts of the workshop, who can I ask?
A:
During the workshop, you may ask the trainer or any of the assistants. If time permits, you may approach the trainer after the workshop.
Q:
Where can I get a copy of the binders provided in the workshops?
A:
You can download the content of our workbooks from the Microsoft Office Web-based Training website. The workbooks are available in PDF file format and the data files are provided as self-extracting archives. The files are password protected and require user authentication. Only current CSULA students, faculty, and staff with a valid PINE, NIS, or CSLA account have access to these files.
Q:
If I have some questions about my homework, who can I ask?
A:
The extent of our help is strictly limited to the material and content that is covered in the workshops. If further help is required, it is recommended that you seek your corresponding instructor or advisor. Other resources that may also be helpful are the University Tutorial Center and the University Writing Center.
