What is the ITS Training Program?
The ITS Training Program provides just-in-time learning resources such as lynda.com and Moodle courses which deliver technology training to the Cal State L.A. community when and where they need it. In addition, the ITS Training Program provides in-person training and step-by-step handouts on the use of computing systems, software and services provided by Information Technology Services (ITS).
What is just-in-time learning?
Just-in-time learning systems such as lynda.com deliver training to the Cal State L.A. community when and where they need it. Rather than sitting through hours of traditional classroom training, Cal State L.A. students, faculty and staff are able to use online tutorials to learn the information they need to solve problems, perform specific tasks, or quickly update their skills. To learn more, visit the Just-in-time Learning project page.
Does the ITS Training Program offer online training?
The ITS Training Program offers online training via just-in-time learning systems such as lynda.com and Moodle. lynda.com provides training videos on the latest applications and is available 24x7 to Cal State L.A. students, faculty and staff. The ITS Training Program provides several online courses on Moodle on campus-specific technologies. Each Moodle course includes slide shows, step-by-step handouts, practice data files, assessments and video tutorials which can also be viewed on our YouTube channel. The ITS Training Program also provides self-paced tutorials with practice data files on most Microsoft Office applications. For more information, visit the Just-in-time Learning resources page.

Do I get credit or a certificate for completing an online course or attending a workshop?
There is no credit for completing an online course on Moodle or attending an in-person workshop. However, a certificate of completion can be obtained by those individuals who:
- Complete all parts of any online course on Moodle and receive at least an 80% score on the assessments. To receive a certificate, please email your assessment scores to email@example.com.
- Attend all parts of the following workshop series within two consecutive quarters: IBM SPSS Statistics, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, PowerPoint or Word). The certificate of completion can be claimed at the conclusion of the last workshop in the series, pending verification of attendance. Unclaimed certificates will be discarded.
Is it OK to attend a workshop if I missed the previous one in the series?
Although you may do so, it is always better to attend all sessions. If you miss a session, it is a good idea to review the missed material prior to coming to the next workshop.
Where can I get the training materials if I miss a workshop?
The training materials are available for download on the ITS Training Program website. Handouts are available on the Handouts page. Microsoft Office workbooks and sample data files are available on the Microsoft Office Training page. Our Moodle courses also contain materials for many of our in-person workshops.
If I do not understand some parts of the workshop, who can I ask?
During the workshop, you may ask the trainer or any of the assistants. If time permits, you may approach the trainer after the workshop. You can also email or call us for any workshop-related questions.
If I have some questions about my homework, who can I ask?
The extent of our help is strictly limited to the material and content that is covered in the workshops. If further help is required, it is recommended that you seek your corresponding instructor or advisor. Other resources that may also be helpful are the University Tutorial Center and the University Writing Center.
What should I do if I do not have an application that you teach?
The applications that we teach are available in the Open Access Labs on campus. We also have several applications available through myCSULA Tools, an on-demand service that provides virtual access to frequently-used software applications from any device with an Internet connection. Visit the myCSULA Tools (Anywhere, On-demand Software Applications) project page for more information and setup instructions.
