This FAQ is to provide answers to common problems and issues that are faced by faculty about TEC/LEC/MEC/EC at CSULA.


Q. How to Log into the Faculty Workstation?

A. At the log in screen, type in your NIS user name and password.
Select the NIS domain. [Note: On some screens, you may only see the user name and password fields. Click the Options button to reveal the 'Log On To' field. Enter the NIS domain.

Q. How can I find a complete listing of equipment in Shared Electronic Classrooms?

A. Click on the link to search http://sql.calstatela.edu/shared/.

Q. Where do I get the Padlock Combination Code to use the equipment in Lecture Hall Classrooms?

A. Faculty can request a Padlock Combination Code from the Dean of Educational Support Services (ESS) office at x-3818.

Q. What types of computers are in the Electronic Classrooms?

A. To see what hardware and software are available in the electronic classrooms, and Open Access Labs (as well as their locations) please visit the following link:

Q. What types of computers are in the Technologically and Media Enhanced Classrooms?

Q. How do I schedule a class in Shared Electronic Classrooms?

A. Please contact your department secretary or college office.

Q. Who do I contact when the Shared Electronic Classrooms equipment is not working?

A. If there is a problem with the computers, projector and/or the printers during instruction between 9am-6pm M-TH, 9am-4-pm Fri contact the ITS Help Desk at (323) 343-6170 to have an ITS staff member paged to provide immediate assistance.
  If there is a problem with the computers connecting to the network during instruction after 6pm M-TH, 4pm Fri and on weekends, please contact (323) 343-2630 to have the ITS staff on call paged.

Q. How do I get software for my class installed in Shared Electronic Classrooms?

A. To request a software installation, submit a request to the Dean of Educational Support Services (ESS) in ADM 715 for review and approval before the sixth week of the quarter prior to the quarter of intended use. For example, if the software is to be ready for use by the first day of the fall quarter, the form is due before the sixth week of the summer quarter.

Q. What should I do if the projection screen is not functioning properly in Lecture Hall Classrooms?

A. Contact campus facilities at extension 3-3440.

Q. How do I attach the laptop to projector in Lecture Hall/TEC classrooms?

A. There is an external VGA cable next to the monitor; plug this into your laptop's external monitor port. Be sure that the floor mounted computer is switched off.

Q. What equipment is on the Mobile TEC Cart?

A. The Mobile TEC Cart consists of a multimedia projector, computer, DVD/VCR Combo player, and amplified speaker.  This unit has no laptop hookup or access to the internet.  The computer will accept the following medium:  floppy, 100 zip, CD and an USB extension cable for external USB memory devices.

Q. How can I reserve the Mobile TEC Cart?

A. Call the college to reserve and pickup the Mobile Tec Cart:
