Smart Phone & Campus Outlook (Email)

Introduction


Campus Email can be retrieved from a number of SmartPhones using either Cingular or Verizon provided that one has a GoodLink (A.K.A. Good Mobile Messaging) license valid for California. Because transfering of email is data intensive, ITS recommends that the user first acquire a cellular service plan that includes unlimited data service.

The GoodLink service is provided through our GoodLink servers on campus, the email arriving at your Smartphone through the GoodLink provided service. For detailed information, see the following documentation: GoodLink home page

  1. Call the appropriate account representative.

  2. If porting from another carrier, provide
    • mobile porting number
    • user name
    • account number and carrier name
    • billing address as it appears on the bill
    • any passwords if placed on the account
  3. Provide information about existing plans and/or devices or order as appropriate:
    • your account number
    • your area code and number
    • whether a change to an unlimited data plan is needed
    • the type of device you may be using
  4. Purchase a "GoodLink" license for California.
    • Provide your user name and email address.

Once this has been processed, the vendor will contact ITS and provide the appropriate information.

ITS, in turn,
  • sets up the local GoodLink account
  • sends an introductory and informative email to the user's Outlook account (on the user 's desktop) on how to set up the smartphone to receive email.
