Placing Calls
Calls Billed to Your Home
To bill calls to your home or personal account, dial 8 plus 0 and the seven-digit local or ten-digit long distance number. When you hear the computer tone, enter your personal calling card ID as instructed by your service carrier.
Campus Calls
To dial another person on campus, listen for the dial tone, then dial 3 plus the four-digit phone number.
Collect Calls
To place a collect or operator-assisted call, dial 8 plus 0 and the seven-digit local or ten-digit long distance number. When you hear the computer tone, dial 0 for operator assistance.
Directory Assistance
Telephone information is available by dialing 8 plus 411 for the local 323 area code, or by dialing 8, 1, the area code and 555-1212 for all other areas. Information calls are charged to the caller’s reporting unit. The cost for 411 is $0.46 for the immediate calling area and $0.95 for local toll calls. The cost for 555-1212 long distance directory assistance is $1.99 per call.
International Calls
To place international calls, dial 8 plus 011 and the telephone number, followed by the # symbol. Dialing the # symbol at the end of the telephone number will speed the call overseas.
Local Calls
To place calls within the 323 area code, dial 8 plus the seven-digit telephone number.
Local Distance
To place calls to other domestic area codes, dial 8 plus 1, the area code, and the seven-digit number.
Operator
For local operator assistance, dial 8 plus 0. For long distance operator assistance, dial 8 plus 00.
Telegrams
Call Western Union, 8 plus 1-800-325-6000, and request the telegram to be billed to your office telephone number.
