Telephone System Feature Description
The basic system features described in this section are available to all users, but not necessarily programmed on all telephones. If you would like to request one or more of these features, please consult your Department Representative.
Authorization Code
The Authorization Code feature is used to temporarily override the dialing level restrictions assigned to most telephones. The user enters a confidential authorization code, and once it is accepted, the dialing privilege assigned to that user’s authorization code will apply for the duration of the call. The benefits of this feature include user identification for billing and network access control.
Call Forward All Calls
When the Call Forward All Calls feature is activated, all incoming calls to a telephone are automatically forwarded to another pre-selected extension within the phone system. Only calls to the Prime Extension on a multi-line telephone, or to the extension on a single-line telephone can be forwarded. Outgoing calls may still be placed even when the Call Forward feature is activated.
Call Forward No Answer
With Call Forward No Answer, a call that is not answered within the system defined parameter of five rings will automatically be forwarded to another extension.
Call Join
This feature allows multi-line users to join together two simultaneous, separate calls on different lines onto one call. This Call Join feature will automatically move the caller from the second line to the first line, creating a three-way conference call.
Call Pick Up
The Call Pick-Up feature allows groups of telephones to be designated or assigned to call pick-up groups. Users can answer any calls made to any telephone in the pick-up group by using a two-digit code or by pressing a defined feature key.
Conference Calls
There are two types of conference calls: Conference-3 and Conference-6. The Conference feature allows a user to add from one to four additional parties to an existing conversation. The conferees may be on- or off-campus; however, at least one on-campus caller must remain on the call to keep the conference established.
Dial Intercom
The Dial Intercom feature provides a separate communication path for stations defined in a dial intercom group. These station users are able to communicate with each other through the intercom feature key programmed on the set by dialing the one or two digit number assigned to an individual.
Hands-Free Operation (Speakerphone)
The Hands-Free feature allows the user to communicate without having to lift the telephone handset. The user presses the appropriate button on the set to answer or place a call. The Meridian 2616 is equipped with an integrated hands-free unit.
Hunting
Hunting allows calls which encounter busy extensions to be automatically routed to another extension.
Last Number Redial
The Last Number Redial feature automatically stores the last number that was dialed. The stored number can be redialed by rapidly pressing the primary line button twice or by pressing a designated key. Single-line phone users must dial a specific feature code.
Message Waiting Indicator
The Message Waiting feature works in conjunction with the Voice Mail system to provide the subscriber with either a visual or audible notification that messages are waiting. When this feature is programmed as a key on a multi-line instrument, pressing that key autodials into the voice mail system.
Prime Extension
The lower right-hand bottom key on a multi-line telephone is considered the Prime Extension, and will automatically be selected upon call origination. All outbound calls are associated with the Prime Extension, regardless of the line on the set that was actually used to place the call.
Ring Again
If a busy signal is encountered, Ring Again alerts the user when that telephone becomes free. The system then will automatically redial the same extension or outbound phone number.
Speed Call
Speed Call allows a user to store frequently dialed numbers on a one or two-digit access code. Each number stored is dialed by activating the Speed Call feature, and then the appropriate digit(s). Speed Call users are defined in a group. Speed Call Controllers can program the numbers to be stored and access the codes, while Speed Call Users can only access the codes.
Transfer
This feature allows a user to place an existing call on hold, call a third party, then transfer the call that was on hold to the third party. The user may consult privately with the third party before completing the transfer.
