Setting up a Screen Capture

The new session wizard employs the easiest way to begin an encoding session. To use the New Session Wizard for screen capture, follow the instructions below or view the multimedia instructions (high bandwidth | low bandwidth):
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Windows Media, and then click Windows Media Encoder.

In the Welcome to Windows Media Encoder dialog box, click the Capture Screen, in the New Session Wizard option, and then click OK.

- You will be asked to select the portion of the screen you want to capture.
Select either Specific Window, Region of the Screen,
or Entire Screen. Click the Capture Audio from Default audio
device, if you want audio. Click Next.
Note: For best results it is advisable to encode a specific region in order to balance quality and system resources such as hard drive space.

- Selecting Specific Window will result in the following
screen below. Selecta window from the dropdown
list of programs. Check mark the flash border if desired. Click Next.

Selecting Region of the Screen will result in the following screen below. To define a region either: Click the Selection Button to draw a box visually or input coordinates. Check mark the Flash border if desired. Click Next.

Selecting Entire Screen will result in the following screen below.

Click on the browse button to provide a location and name your encoded content output file. Click Next.

Select the Quality of the Capture. Click Next.

Provide information about the encoded file. Click Next.

Review the summary and go back if necessary. Select the Begin capturing screens when I click Finish, if desired. Click Next.

Note: You can start the New Session Wizard at any time from the Windows Media Encoder’s main user interface by clicking Session, and then clicking New Session Wizard. If you access the wizard this way, the Session Selection page will appear.
To Start encoding:
Click Start on the Control Panel. A message will notify you that encoding has begun.

Pausing and Stopping the Capture
During encoding, Windows Media Encoder will minimize.
To pause the capture, you must go back to the Encoder program via
the Start task bar on the bottom of the screen or by hitting the [Alt+Tab]
keys to shift to the Encoder program. Once paused you may modify you settings
via the Properties button, continue encoding, or stop encoding and view your file.
Playing the Capture with Windows Media Player
After the capture, there is an summary and description of the session, along with a button to play and review your encoded file.
If you want to launch Windows Media Player:
- Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Media Player; or, double-click the Windows Media Player icon on your desktop.
- On the File menu, click Open.
- Type the file name or navigate to the file, and then click Open.
- Click the Play button on the player.
