What is Symantec Endpoint Protection?
Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP), developed by Symantec Corporation, is an antivirus and spyware product for PC and Mac.
Your environment: A background service is running on your PC managed by a server. You need not use the utilities contained in the software unless you suspect you've introduced a virus or malware to your PC; in that case running Active Scan or Full Scan would be prudent.
- Double-click on the SEP icon in you system tray (lower right-corner). The green dot signifies that your PC is in contact with the server.
- User Account Control will pop up. Type in your myCSULA password.
- The Status page with menu options pops up. If the status does not read "No Problems Detected" or something similar, you should run a scan. If your PC has been off for a number of days, you might want to click LiveUpdate which will give you the following pop up:
- Click Close. Otherwise proceed; Click Scan for Threats ("Options" under Virus and Spyware Protection also has a menu).
- Click either the Active Scan or Full Scan icon.
- When the scan ends, close the Window ("X"),

- Even with administrative privileges, Change Settings is not available to users. Most of the options are locked. Settings can be changed by only the SEP administrator.
- Running scans produces logs. The system produces logs viewable only by IDs with administrative privileges. However, scans initiated by the user can be viewed by the user. Clicking View Logs in any of the first three categories gives you a menu of logs which can be viewed to get information on your scans.
