XP on Your Desktops

Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Office XP, the new operating system and office application standards, are now available campus-wide. ITS assembled a cross-functional team of experts, including academic and administrative Instructional Technology Consultants, Faculty Instructional Technology Support Center members, Help Desk technicians, staff, and faculty to make this rollout a success.

The XP suite enhances anyone’s computing experience. Smart tags and task panes provide speedy access to relevant information and tools, including the ability to dynamically integrate online tables and charts into your own documents. Support for USB 1.1 and 2.0 devices means that most digital cameras, scanners and other USB devices can be connected easily. XP offers a “new and improved” version of most familiar features and is backwards compatible through almost all Office 2002, 2000, and 97 applications.

For a list of the upgraded productivity applications installed in specific student facilities, click the Technical Facilities link on the ITS Technical Support web page.

If additional productivity software applications are required in these facilities, please direct all such requests to the office of the Dean of Educational Support Services. Requests for additional software in Technologically Enhanced Classrooms will be met within two business days. Software requests for Electronic Classrooms and Open Access Labs will be accepted until the end of the fifth week of any current quarter, and will be installed during the break before the start of the following quarter.

For more detailed XP upgrade information on support, documentation, training, testing, security, faster and easier access, and frequently asked questions, click on Software Applications on the ITS Technical Support web page. The XP rollout team is committed to making your computing experience a better one by providing excellent service and support.  Call the ITS Computer Help Desk at extension 3-6170 if you need assistance.

XP for Home Use

Faculty and staff who have had Microsoft Office XP Professional and Windows XP or Microsoft Office Mac on their office computers are eligible to receive a second copy of the application to install on a home computer through the Microsoft Campus Agreement Program. The license agreement for these applications requires that the CSULA employee install one copy on a home computer, provided that the employee is the primary user of that computer. The application(s) must be used for work-related purposes under the guidelines of the Work at Home provisions (see http://msadmin.calstate.edu/). The CDs containing the application(s) may not be duplicated. The application(s) come with their own installation key codes.

Employees who meet the stated criteria can obtain a copy of the Microsoft Office XP Pro, Window XP, or Microsoft Office Mac from the Cashiers Office in ADM 128 for $20 each.
