Get It with GET: A New Way to Conduct Campus Business

Artwork for PeopleSoft articleThe combination of PeopleSoft Student Administration 8.0 with Cal State L.A.’s web portal, Golden Eagle Territory (GET), provides unprecedented convenience for students and faculty to do things like submitting and tracking applications, adding or dropping courses, making payments, processing grades and class assignments.

The traditional client-server approach of using student administration software calls for one application to make a service request from another application, usually on a different computer. Thinking strategically, CSULA designed a self-service, student-centric portal that offers customization and the immediacy of the Internet. Despite its complexity, the CSULA approach is faster and more robust than traditional ones.

Neil Bowers, on the IBM team assisting Cal State L.A. with the PeopleSoft Initiative says, “Not only is the University’s phased approach innovative, but it will provide the CSU and all of higher education with a totally new option for implementing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications. This is what we mean by ‘leading edge.’”

Students, faculty, and staff are quickly realizing the benefits of GET. According to Joan Woosley, Director of Admissions and University Registrar, GET is the conduit for students, faculty, and staff to more easily and quickly interact with the University. Students have the capability to access their academic records, register for classes, order transcripts, apply for graduation, and communicate with instructors. Similarly, GET affords faculty and staff the capability to carry out administrative duties through many different self-service applications.

The GET portal mates the speed of the Internet with all the functionality of PeopleSoft Student Administration so that CSULA users can more easily manage the “business” aspects of campus life. GET it now!  The student GET portal is located at http://get.calstatela.edu, and faculty/staff portal at http://getla.calstatela.edu. Faculty and staff can apply for Student Administration account at http://www.calstatela.edu/get-account.
