Four Students Win Laptops
Cheryl Costello, Anisha Dickey, Ruben Garcia, and Sonu Upadhyay are the lucky winners of HP Compaq 6720s Notebook PCs. The University held three drawings during fall and winter quarters to publicize the both information security and the importance of NIS accounts. Students were encouraged to pick up and start using their NIS accounts and e-mail. An NIS account is now required to access all campus computing resources, including Library and OAL computers. And, NIS e-mail accounts are now used as one of the official means of communicating with students. Read their stories and reactions to winning by clicking on their pictures or names.

GET Migrated to CMS Data Center
September 2007: The GET student system is no longer campus-based since its migration on August 27 to the CSU's Common Management Systems (CMS) data center. A new CMS trouble ticket procedure is place for reporting any performance issues or problems. Although CMS personnel will handle issues that are not related to the campus infrastructure, ITS technical staff will assist in problem resolution, and the ITS Help Desk will monitor trouble ticket status. Read a memo from Peter Quan, Vice President of Information Technology Services and CTO, outlining the new procedure.
The migration includes merging GET into a combined CMS Human Resources and Student Administration (HRSA) system. At stated, Phase 1 was successfully completed on August 27, 2007, and Phase 2 will project will be completed by February, 2008. For more details, read a memo from CSULA Vice Presidents Peter Quan and Anthony Ross about the impact to users, changes being made, and system unavailability during a phase. For previews and news about this project, visit the CMS Update Web site at http://cms.calstatela.edu/.
New Student OWA E-mail System
This fall, campus-issued student e-mail will be one of the official means of communication between Cal State L.A. and students. To make that possible, the campus has already installed a new student e-mail system: OWA. Here is some information every student should know:- On April 27, 2007, the campus will convert all student e-mail accounts left on Webmail to OWA. If you want to convert your account yourself, do it by April 26, 2007. It’s simple: just go to https://mymail.calstatela.edu and follow the easy instructions. Your regular NIS account user ID and password will work with your OWA account.
- After your account is migrated, all new e-mail messages will go only to your new mailbox – not your Webmail account. For more information on the migration process, go to: http://www.calstatela.edu/its/docs/pdf/Upgrade.pdf. (case sensitive)
- The Webmail system will be discontinued on June 10, 2007. If you want to keep any of your Webmail messages, forward or save them by the June 10 deadline. After that, all e-mail on Webmail will be lost.
- If you need help, contact the ITS Help Desk: LIB PW Lobby or (323) 343-6170. For FREE hands-on training, check the OWA workshop schedule at http://www.calstatela.edu/training.
