Information Technology Services (ITS) is working with the Chancellor’s Office to upgrade the existing wired network switching infrastructure. Much of our existing network equipment is approaching the end of its life cycle and needs to be replaced. This upgrade will also position our campus for 10 GB in the future.
The project is scheduled to begin March 19 and conclude April 24. To minimize impact, all work during the winter and spring quarters will be performed after 10 p.m. and throughout the day during the winter quarter break.
The work in each building will be done in two phases. Phase 1 will replace the main network switch(es) in the buildings. Phase 2 will move all individuals in the buildings to the new switch(es). Network access will be interrupted during each of these phases. The interruptions during phase 1 will range from several hours to most of the night, depending on the size of the building and number of network switches. The interruptions during phase 2 are estimated to be about 30 to 60 minutes. The tentative implementation schedule is outlined below; buildings not listed on the schedule aren’t being upgraded and won’t be affected. Please understand that due to the work variability, advances or delays in the schedule could occur. Should schedule changes occur, ITS will issue notifications to affected building coordinators, deans and Information Technology Consultants (ITCs). ITS will also post notices on building bulletin boards and building entrances. These notifications will include the revised dates and hours for the upgrade. Again, all work will be performed outside of normal business hours.
