Use Your NIS Account Drawing: Cheryl Costello Is a Winner!
Cheryl Costello, a first-year transfer student at Cal State L.A., is awarded a new HP Compaq 6720s Notebook PC as her prize in the Use Your NIS Account Drawing by Peter Quan, Vice President, Information Technology Services. The laptop could not have come at a better time. “Winning this HP laptop was a blessing,” commented Ms. Costello. “My old laptop just stopped working and it didn´t have wireless capability. Now I can use my new laptop and ‘plug-in’ anywhere with my NIS account and get going.” A psychology major, Ms. Costello transferred from Golden West College. She says she doesn´t mind traveling all the way to Cal State L.A. from Orange County because “CSULA has an excellent psychology program.” Cheryl´s educational goals are to obtain a Master of Arts degree in forensic psychology, and later to obtain a doctorate.
When asked about her experience using her NIS account and technology resources on campus, Ms. Costello replied, “The technology on campus is very user friendly, and my NIS account gives me access to what I need. For example, I can access Library computers, the wireless network, and my e-mail. I like the OWA e-mail system, too. It´s easy to use and keeps me abreast of all of the available student activities and workshops. After all, you need to know what´s going on campus.” Cheryl also said that the size of her OWA account was adequate for campus e-mail, but she recommends getting something like Hotmail for personal mail.
A happy Cheryl Costello said she will encourage others to use their NIS accounts. The Use Your NIS Account and other drawings scheduled for later this quarter and early winter 2008 quarter are reminders to students to check their NIS e-mail often.
Congratulations, Cheryl Costello!
The University thanks Hewlett-Packard Company (HP)
for its generous donation of laptop computers for these drawings!
