Use Your NIS Account Drawing: Anisha Dickey Is a Winner!
Peter
Quan, vice president of ITS, awards Anisha Dickey, from Oakland,
California, her new laptop. Anisha is a lucky winner in the
Use Your NIS Account Drawing of a new HP Compaq 6720s Notebook PC. A
sophomore majoring in dance, Ms. Dickey is a first-year transfer
student from Merit College in Oakland. Although she applied to all
of the CSU campuses, her family urged her to attend Cal State L.A.
because she would be in the heart of the entertainment industry –
just perfect for her major. “I’m glad I made the choice to come
here,” Anisha said. “The classes and teachers are so amazing.”
Anisha was skeptical about the e-mail notification she received announcing that her entry had been selected in the Use Your NIS Account Drawing. She made the call to question if her notification was legitimate, and was delighted to find out it was true. Ms. Dickey immediately called her mother with the good news. The church in Anisha’s home town had been raising funds for her to buy a laptop, but now she won’t have to wait. Grateful for this opportunity, Anisha said, “This is a great thing the University is doing. Not every student can afford to buy an HP laptop.”
For this student, winning the HP laptop is just one happy outcome of using her NIS account. When asked how she likes the campus technology, Ms. Dickey responded, “It’s really cool. I use my NIS account to access the myCSULA portal, and I use the OWA scheduling feature. It keeps me organized. I also use my NIS account to access Library resources. I am not particularly fond of research, but I have an annotated bibliography project coming up and was shown by the Library how to do key searches to narrow the search scope. I don’t think I am going to have any problems now.”
Congratulations, Anisha Dickey!
The University thanks Hewlett-Packard Company (HP)
for its generous donation of laptop computers for these drawings!
