How do I change the account password?

Mentally create and memorize your new password. DO NOT use words that can be found in the dictionary, proper names, social security numbers, license plate numbers, or permutations of words/names. Remember to use at least two alphabetic characters (a mix of upper and lower case letters for added security), and at least one number, symbol or punctuation mark. Your new password must also contain at least three characters that are different than your old password. Remember that your password is case sensitive and upper and lower case letters must be entered appropriately or you will be denied access to the system.

To prevent your account from being compromised, change your password every quarter or three months. To change your password, we recommend using one of the campus Open Access Labs, and use the PDF http://www.calstatela.edu/its/docs/pdf/passwd.pdf for step-by-step instructions.

Passwords are updated every 60 minutes daily. You can continue to use your old password until the new password has been updated throughout the Network. If you have difficulty changing your password, call the ITS Help Desk Office at (323) 343-6170.

What if I forgot my password?

If you cannot remember your password you will have to apply for a password reset in person at the ITS Help Desk in the Library Palmer Wing (LIB PW) Lobby. You will be asked to show photo identification, valid proof of current registration, and complete the Request for Password Change form. The process to reset your password will take about 5 minutes, however your new password will not become active until the password file is updated on the system. The password file is updated every 60 minutes.

When will my computer account get terminated?

Network/E-mail accounts for Regular Students terminate if they are no longer on current student standing. For example, when the student graduates, or is on a leave of absence, or misses two consecutive quarters. Network/E-mail accounts for Faculty/Staff are locked when they are not currently employed and terminate 60 days after separation from the university. If an account is terminated, a new Network/E-mail application must be submitted.

Students applying under Extended Education, Open University, or ELP must renew their account every quarter. These students will be asked to show a current quarter fee receipt and a valid photo ID (i.e. CSULA Student ID, Driver's License, or Passport). These students must come to the ITS Help Desk at the beginning of each quarter that s/he is enrolled. Students not renewing their account within the first four weeks of the quarter will lose their account.  If students in these categories become regular students, they must notify the ITS Help Desk of their new standing. After becoming a regular student they do not need to renew their account every quarter.

All students with name and/or standing changes must go to the ITS HelpDesk as soon as possible to maintain their account.

NOTE: Alumni qualify for a Guest Network/E-mail account if they have joined the Alumni Association. Their Guest account is valid for the duration of their membership. Before applying for a Network/E-mail account, Alumni Association Members must visit Library Reference Desk to obtain a Library Bar code for their Alumni ID Card.
