#GetHeartChecked

Fourth health screening event scheduled for October 3 at Cal State LA

Free Heart Health Screening for Students, Faculty, Staff and Alumni

Where: Main Walkway by the University Bookstore

Get heart checked When: October 3, 10 a.m to 4:30 p.m.

The Clinton Health Matters Initiative, an initiative of the Clinton Foundation, Women's Heart Alliance and Cal State LA have launched a national #GetHeartChecked campaign to help young women decrease the risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

Students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to attend the October 3 event. Three other heart health screenings have been held at Cal State LA.

The #GetHeartChecked kickoff, held in October 2015, featured a panel discussion with Surgeon General Vivek H. Murthy, National Council of La Raza President Janet Murguia, Cal State LA President William A. Covino, and Dr. Rita Redberg, professor of medicine and director of Women’s Cardiovascular Services at the University of California, San Francisco. They  discussed cardiovascular disease and how it impacts women. The day-long event also featured free screenings by healthcare professionals and colorful booths.

During the 2015 event, peer health educators for the Student Health Advisory Comittee talked about well-being. They provided information about promoting inner well-being to help ensure academic success.

Heart disease claims the lives of nearly 400,000 women annually in the United States. When you know your risk, you can take preventive measures. The screenings are free and take just a few minutes to complete. Take charge of your health and get your heart checked. Come to the Main Walkway to be screened and learn about what you can do to live a healthy life.
