The general education (GE) policy at Cal State LA is in accord with the California Title 5 (CCR § 40405.1), California State University Executive Order 1100 and a detailed description is in the Cal State LA Faculty Handbook. The philosophy and overarching aims of the General Education program are:
- It enriches the lives of students as they acquire knowledge, learn to think critically, and use methodologies of the various disciplines.
- Students also learn to prepare for participation in a democracy, to appreciate a sense of shared cultural heritage, and to understand the environment.
- Students experience self discovery and personal growth and recognize them as lifelong processes.
