Wanted: Research Assistants in Structural Engineering
The Rodriguez Research Group is committed to sustainable development and seeks
solutions based on resilience of structures to natural and human-caused hazards.
We are seeking student Research Assistants (RAs) to join the research group. As an RA you will aid in a variety of
activities including
-
Structural calculations with commercial finite element software, analyzing structures under earthquake and blast loading
-
Programming in-house software for analyzing structures under blast loading
-
Literature reviews in timber structures, concrete materials, structural analysis, and probabilistic topics
RAs will receive course credit (CE 499, CE 597, CE 598, and CE 599); BS and MS students are welcome to apply. As a Research Assistant you will

Gain valuable experience for attending competitive graduate schools

Apply your classroom knowledge to cutting-edge problems
-
Forge strong relationships with professors and fellow students
Minimum qualifications:
-
Overall GPA 3.0 or higher
-
Grade of B+ or better in CE 201, 205, 211, and 280 (or equivalent)

Provide excellent samples of (a) engineering calculations, (b) computer programs
you have written (if interested), and (c) written work.

Able to commit at least 5 hours per week and attend weekly research meeting.
Preferred qualifications:
-
Demonstrated ability to work independently and to take ownership of projects

Upper division coursework in relevant areas with a grade of B+ or better (possible courses of interest include CE 360, CE 361, CE 382, CE 402, CE 460, CE
462, CE 463, and CE 465)
