Phil 327 Take-Home Final Exam
Length: 5-7 pages (typed, double-spaced). Write a well-organized essay in which you:
(1) Provide an account of “who you are” using the handout on identity as a point of reference. Obviously this is not going to be a project that you will be able to complete. Nor will you wish to share everything.
Focus on at least TWO “power” related aspects of your identity (gender, race, religion, nationality, class, sexual orientation).
ONE of these aspects should reflect ways in which you are oppressed or disadvantaged by “The Game.” ONE of these aspects should reflect ways in which you see yourself as unfairly privileged by “The Game.”
ONE of the aspects should be gender OR sexual orientation/sexuality. However you cannot select BOTH of these aspects.
Obviously, you may end up having to discuss other aspects as well (in fact, a
good paper will do this). However you should structure your paper around the
TWO major aspects that you selected.
(2)
In your
discussion, use at least TWO key concepts, ideas, or opinions discussed in
lecture or in the articles to explore the preceding issues. To what degree does
your own experience connect or not connect to these concepts, ideas, or
opinions? Explain.
Note: Good papers (i.e., papers which receive higher grades) will demonstrate (i) a thorough understanding of the relevant concepts/issues; and (ii) a serious attempt to explore this concepts/issues in a deep, critical way. This is your opportunity to SHOW OFF (i.e. show that you have mastered the material and reflected upon the issues).
Note: ONLY Word documents will be accepted. EMAIL: tbettch@calstatela.edu
