CIS410 Hardware and Software Architecture (4) Prerequisite: CIS 283 or permission of instructor. Spring 2013 Time:Wednesdays 6:10pm-10:00pm Location: Salazar Hall C259 Instructor: Office hours: Tuesday 3:15pm-4:15pm, 6:15-7:15pm & Thursday 2:15pm-4:15pm.
Send the Instructor email for an appointment for other times. Objectives: This course will provide the student
with a detailed understanding of computer hardware and system software. The material covered in this
course is intended to form a foundation of technical knowledge for systems analysis, design,
configuration, procurement, and management. It is designed to introduce the basic concepts in computer
logic, data concepts and formats, computer architecture and hardware operation, and system software to
students in information systems.

Grading:
There will be regular homework assignments, a mid-term exam, and
a final exam.
A final grade will be determined using the following weights: Homework 10%, Mid-term Exam 42%, Final Exam 46%,
Class participation and attendance 2%. Homwork:
Homework assignments must be done individually.
Failure to do so will result in a violation of the Academic Honor Code.
The following cases will be considered as violations: identical answers
and extremely similar answers. Exam:
The tentative date for the mid-term is May 8,
Wednesday, 6:10pm-8:10pm. The final exam is scheduled for Jun 12, Wednesday, 7:30pm-10:00pm.
The exams will contain the true/false, multiple choice, and small questions.
The final exam is not cumulative and it will only cover the material talked after the mid-term exam.
The study guides and exam sample questions will be posted on the Homework page of the course web site.
You are allowed to use one page note in two exams. Attendance Policy:
Attendance is mandatory. Send the instructor
(sxing@calstatela.edu) email in advance if you have to
miss a class due to emergency or sickness.
