INTRODUCTION
In 2008, I earned my Ph.D. in Sociology from UC Irvine, and since then have been an Assistant Professor of Sociology at CSULA. My research and teaching areas include gender, criminology, deviance, social movements, social psychology, qualitative research, and culture.
TEACHING INTERESTS
I teach a wide range of courses at CSULA, including: Introduction to Sociology Sociology of Gender Roles Deviant Behavior (undergrad and graduate) Criminology (undergrad and graduate) Collective Behavior and Social Movements
RESEARCH
To date, most of my research has focused on sex workers, specifically on street prostitutes. I have published multiple articles on this population. I am also interested in studying anti-war movements, their effectiveness, how they use frames and collective identity, and the ways in which local context shapes these factors. I am currently working on a book manuscript that examines how women exit street prostitution while immersed within prostitute-serving organizations.
