Office: MLK 4059 With a background in both the business world and academia, I bring a broad range of experience to my position at Cal State Los Angeles. I strive to make all the material covered in my classes relevent to the real world in the hope that students in my classes will be better prepared to meet the challenges of a post college life. I teach a variety of classes in the Geography department, and I enjoy presenting a geographic perspective to both current and past events. Classes in geography involve more than memorizing places on a map. Geography focuses on "where events occur, and why they occur where they do". Examining events, whether they are human or physical phenomena, through this perspective allows students to have a greater understanding of the world around them. I believe that this type of understanding will be increasingly important in the 21st century as people are linked more and more to global events through technology. My research interests include: 1) Understanding American urban areas, with an emphasis on growth and change. Housing stock and commercial activity are the areas that I focus on when conducting this type of research. 2)The American Cultural Landscape, with an emphasis on the built environment in the Post World War II era.
