As a former CSULA student, who also graduated from a local high school (Alhambra), I am interested in linking our ambitious students with scholarly associations, graduate programs, and professional careers.
The courses that I teach are Sociology 300 - Cultural Emotions, Sociology 120 - Intimate Relationships, Sociology 422 - Social Psychology, and Sociology 522 - Seminar in Social Psychology. I also am the Theme Coordinator for the Human Emotions General Education Theme, which I developed as a curricular program at CSULA.
Social psychology is my research specialization, with specific interests in sociology of emotions, social role theory, interpersonal relationships, culture and personality, and historical social psychology.I was elected Chair of the American Sociological Association's Section on Sociology of Emotions, elected to the Executive Committee of the International Society for Research on Emotions, and have served as Associate Editor of Symbolic Interaction, Perspectives in Social Theory, and am on the Editorial Board of Social Psychology Quarterly.
