INTRODUCTION

Hello! I'm Shane Gomes, Ph.D. and I am a California Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PSY 20625). I joined the CSULA psychology faculty in January 2008.

TEACHING INTERESTS

My teaching interests arise from my clinical experience and research background. I have taught psychology courses in: introductory psychology, personality theory, child and adolescent development, psychology and law, human violence, behavioral disorders in children, counseling and theory, sensation and perception and a seminar in counseling. My teaching style is didactically-oriented with utilization of lectures, video presentation, role-plays, case presentations, vignettes, small and large-group discussions, and on-line presentations. I love teaching and inspiring students to excel in their academic pursuits!

RESEARCH

My research interests include: childhood behavioral disorders, specifically, childhood mood disorders (bipolar disorder in children & adolescents, and depression in children), autism, asperger's and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and child maltreatment (child physical abuse, child sexual abuse, child emotional/verbal abuse, and child neglect). I am also interested in research in multicultural therapy approaches and personality disorders.
