Nanda Ganesan is a professor of information systems at California State University at Los Angeles. He was previously the chair of the department as well. Dr. Ganesan has worked and conducted research in several countries including the USA, Australia, England, Singapore, Iran, Sri Lanka and Japan. Among the various responsibilities undertaken were the teaching of courses in information technology, the conducting of research leading to publications, the designing and building of computing laboratories and electronic classrooms and the development of instructional websites. 

Dr. Ganesan’s teaching interests are in computer networking and communications, web hosting, hardware and software concepts, database design and application-development using the Office line of productivity software. His teaching is characterized by the introduction of state-of-the-art technology in the curriculum and the use of e-learning techniques and tolls in the instruction of the courses as well. 

His current focus is on the design and implementation of websites for each of the courses being taught at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. This continually evolving website is expected to play a pivotal role in the mode of delivery of instructions in the future. 

Dr. Ganesan emphasizes the incorporation of hands-on computing exercises as part of an essential and effective learning process in Information Technology. The students have responded positively to his teaching methodology as evidenced from the favorable comments and the consistent good ratings received in student opinion surveys. 

Dr. Ganesan’s immediate research interests are in the development of web-based teaching material including the development of multimedia instructional modules, the efficient hosting of such material on the web and, in general, the implementation of e-learning across the curriculum. Configuring computer networks to facilitate the electronic delivery of instruction is also part of his research endeavor. 

Professor Ganesan’s research and development efforts have lead to the publication of more than 25 articles in refereed journals, conference proceedings, handbooks etc. He has also authored a number of student guides

His past efforts directed at the development and publication of multimedia instructional material has resulted in the production of a number of CD-ROM based instructional modules in the areas of communications, networking and general office applications. 

Dr. Ganesan has held offices in professional bodies such as the Association of Information Technology Professionals and the Operational Research Society of Singapore. He has conducted a number of professional seminars in the areas of networking and application development.

Professor Ganesan’s involvement with the students is partly characterized by him being an advisor and mentor for the graduate program. Dr. Ganesan has served in numerous committees of responsibility at various levels that include serving in the faculty affairs committees at the school and department levels. 

Professor Ganesan obtained his Ph.D. in Production Engineering from University of Birmingham, England after having specialized in the design of databases and simulation models for the manufacturing industry. He holds two Master’s degrees, one in Computer Science from University of Southern California, USA and the other in Operational Research from University of Lancaster in England.  He initially graduated with an Honors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ceylon.
