INTRODUCTION
Hello students and visitors! My name is Nikola Alenkin, LCSW. I have been teaching at Cal. State since 2001. I currently am working on my Ph.D in Social Policy and Social Research at Loma Linda University. I am also a licensed clinical social work in CA. Along, with that I currently am a social work supervisor at the Department of Veteran's Affairs where I coordinate a program for homeless veterans. I have worked in Skid Row, Twin Towers Jail, and in other diverse settings. I love to teach and also love to share my professional experiences with students. I welcome you to take a course with me or to drop me a line if any of my teaching interests spark your curiosity.
TEACHING INTERESTS
Social Policy, Community Organizing, Social Welfare, Trauma, and Genocide Studies. My goals are to invite my students to re-discover themselves while in a learning environment.
RESEARCH
I am currently working on a study looking at the impacts of secondary traumatic stress on V.A. social workers. In the past, I have conducted research on Holocaust and other Genocide Survivors,HIV/AIDS, Homeless Issues, and Social Service Delivery to Marginalized Populations
