Introduction

TOP

I received my B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tehran Polytechnic , and Masters and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from University of California Berkeley. Prior to joining the department of Mechanical Engineering at California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) in 1981, I was an academic visitor for one year at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Imperial College of Science and Technology, London. Currently I am a professor and chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Department and director of the Multidisciplinary Flight Dynamics and Control Laboratory (MFDCLab), which is funded by multi-year grants by NASA and Air Force Office of Scientific Research. I received a NASA award for development of innovative software in 1986, the University Professional Promise Award in 1992, and the University 2003-2004 Outstanding Professor Award in 2004. I am a senior member of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), a member of American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), and a member of Pi Tau Sigma, the Mechanical Engineering honor society. I am an instrument-rated private pilot with over five hundred hours of flying small single-engine and light twin aircraft. I am a member of Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association (AOPA).

Research Interests

TOP

My current research interest is in multidisciplinary approach to modeling, simulation, analysis, and control of airbreathing hypersonic flight vehicles.
I am also involved in the development of a proprietary fuel cell powered autonomous UAV for environmental research.

In the past ten years I have also been involved in design and development of a 2.4 focal meter precision segmented reflector testbed, a project funded by NASA which is housed in the Structure, Pointing, and Control Engineering (SPACE) Laboratory at Cal State LA.
