Wes Bush Meeting

Special Presentation

2004 NASA SHARP Program

California State University, Los Angeles

Reported by: Rachel Rosenthal

We Met President Bush!

No, not United States President George Bush but Northrop Grumman Space Technology President Wes Bush.  On Wednesday, July 14, 2004, the NASA Sharp interns at Northrop Grumman Space Technology were given the rare opportunity to meet the President of Space Technology, Mr. Wes Bush.  Although many of us showed up simply for the weekly free lunch, this week’s Executive Speaker Series proved to be far more than just food and a break.  Mr. Bush, surprisingly young and energetic, agreed to meet with the NASA Sharp interns for some photographs before the lecture began and was extremely friendly and comfortable around the seven high school interns and RA Jenny Martinez.  After being given the rare chance to meet with the president in such a small group, all the interns were eager to return to the conference room and hear what he had to say.  Once Wes Bush took the front of the room to begin his talk, the room became silent except for the occasional scratching of pen on paper as interns from all over Northrop tried to capture the falling bits of wisdom that Mr. Bush dropped throughout his presentation.

Not only did he speak about his career and how he made it to the top at such a young age, he also provided advice about how to be happy and successful in life in general.  Perhaps the best part of the lecture came at the end, when Mr. Bush received questions from the group.  Warned in advance by Jenny to come prepared with questions, several Northrop interns, including Tiffany Dinkins, Fozoh Saliki, and including myself, asked Mr. Bush about topics ranging from how he became so successful to how he juggled that success with his family life. After fielding a variety of such questions, Mr. Bush then concluded his presentation by sticking around until every person in the room who wanted to speak personally with him had had the opportunity.
