Ice Cream Social

Special Event

2004 NASA SHARP Program

California State University, Los Angeles

Reported by: Alexis Laguna

The ice cream social was definitely a “fulfilling” event that all the Sharpie’s at Northrop Grumman will come to remember. Who wouldn’t enjoy a day of taking a break from work just to hang out with your peers eating ice cream? Fellow Sharpie, Tiffany Dinkins, thought it was like heaven compared to her typical, hard working day. As far as she and her peers were concerned, nothing is better then the cold, sweet taste of ice cream on a hot afternoon. July 19 marked the day that the Northrop Grumman interns had indulged in what seemingly is one of the best ways to end a hard day of work.

One can imagine that the best part of the Ice Cream Social was the ice cream itself. The ice cream flavors available to the interns present at the social included vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. But, don’t let that lead you to believe that this was all, for there was a great assortment of other goodies available to the interns. For example, there were some frozen strawberries, fudge brownies, cookies, whipped cream, and wide variety of sodas and other beverages. All the interns raced to the line to get first picks on what could be called the “call to cavity” buffet.

As if the ice cream itself wasn’t good enough, the interns were given the opportunity to mingle amongst themselves in a classic game of personal bingo. To Sharpie, Tiffany Dinkins’ disappointment, the game was not in fact played the same way you would imagine with the bingo card and chips. Instead, it was a combination of personal factoids that each intern had to go around and sign off on. Some of the toughest on the paper that most couldn’t find matches for included birthdays and school attending. One of the interns with the most factoid matches filled up was Sharpie, Alexis Laguna.

To the Sharpies misfortune, they had to leave early due to the worksite pickups that they had to do. So they could not stick around to hear the results of the bingo challenge. At least they were able to bring all of their snacks and ice cream with them on the long ride back with them. Sharpie, Alexis Laguna was actually the most disappointed because he felt he had a good chance of winning. Most of the others attempted to discourage his hopes but he wouldn’t give in. Low and behold, the following day he received an email saying that he did in fact win, and his prize was a pair of tickets to go see an AMC movie free!
