Universal City Walk

Fun Activity

2004 NASA SHARP Program

California State University, Los Angeles

Reported by: Andrea Tso

On Friday July 02, 2004, the NASA SHARP students took a trip to Universal Studios. Not for the trill rides, but to stroll the City Walk. It was something new and interesting. This is a great place to go to eat, shop, go clubbing, and a place to hang out.

We departed from Cal State LA that evening after our long day attending class. The drive was no less than 15 minutes because it is in Hollywood just over the hill. On the ride over, the big van was rattling and was louder than a train’s horn due to all the excitement. Everyone had already made plans for the night. Certain students purchased movie tickets in advance for “Spider Man 2”, some wanted to go ice-skating, and others just wanted to shop.

Finally we arrived to our destination, Universal Studios. The line for parking tickets was unbelievable! Sitting in the van patiently, Travis noticed that a girl in the vehicle next to us was blindfolded. He figured it was the girl’s birthday, so he opens the window and shouts crazily, “UNIVERSAL STUDIOS!! UNIVERSAL STUDIOS!!” The girls’ friends and mother had these thunderstruck looks on their faces. All of a sudden the whole van began barking at him. They were all disappointed because they thought it was cruel and very childish of him. It was hilarious.

All met at the entrance of the park to decide on what time we were suppose to met back. 10 pm was the time agreed. As soon as we were on our own (of course with our buddy) everyone fled and did there own thing.

The most interesting thing there was, the variety of entertainment it had. They had cool shops, even clothing stores. We expected it to be just regular gift shops, but it turned out to be something way beyond. Some of us got to attend a live band show. They were a bunch of ‘nerdy’ dudes, but they were actually quite entertaining in an odd way.

We all met back at the entrance of the park, right by the Raiders store. We were still missing a couple of people although some were running behind schedule. We ended up waiting awhile for two people who watched a late movie, “The Notebook”. In the meantime, Alex entertained us. There was a Mexican restaurant right across from where we were standing, and everyone outside was salsa dancing. He ran over and began dancing with an older woman.

Everyone was so exhausted from the long day we had. So we tallied up all the people who were anxious to leave back to campus. There were enough students to haul back in the big van, so a majority left, leaving the others to wait. As soon as we arrived back to our rooms it was already curfew, so we crashed out and ended our day.
