Shop 'Til You Drop!

There it stood, an oasis in the desert, full of cool air and enough stores to keep even the pickiest shopper busy for hours: The Ontario Mills Mall.  The day started off well, everyone ready and waiting for the 10 am departure time and other than Kelly’s unsuccessful attempt to pump gas, the ride was rather uneventful and shorter than expected (possibly the only time in the history of NASA Sharp at Cal-State).  As we unloaded, the heat hit us like a wave and we hurried to the air-conditioned haven known as Ontario Mills.

Once inside the mall, armed with cash, credit, and instructions to meet back at 2:00 pm, the group scattered about the mall in about six smaller groups of three to four students, some heading into the first store that caught their eye while others drifted casually around window-shopping.  Some headed for the arcade to pass the hours with gaming fun.  As groups of girls were drawn in by flashy windows promising “buy one get one for $1” tops and skirts or “buy one pair get one half off” shoes, many of the boys began to drift towards athletic stores and hat shops and at the end of the day at least three returned proudly showing the logos of their favorite teams.  In the words of Mitchell Ji, “There was a good variety of stores for all types of shoppers.”

Around 1:30 pm many students were famished from all the frantic shopping and began to congregate in the food court.  By about 1:45 there were around ten students devouring Panda Express, huge slices of pizza, and cheeseburgers.  As everyone began to drift back to the designated meeting place, Gate 8, several students were tired and wanted to go home while the majority still wanted to stay.  We compromised on staying for another hour and at 3:45 pm everyone once again returned to Gate 8 in groups of two or three, some weighted down with the majority of their paycheck in bags from Lucky, American Eagle, and other stores while others returned with one or two smaller purchases.  Over all, the day was successful and enjoyable and everyone had a good time at the air-conditioned oasis known as Ontario Mills.
