A Date with Monica and Venice

What’s a trip to California without visiting the local beaches? Our day of fun in the sun consisted of a beach tour to two hot spots: Santa Monica and Venice Beach.

First stop, Santa Monica Beach! Upon arrival to Santa Monica, it was apparent that this was a true representation of the Californian lifestyle. The weather was perfect for swimming in the cool water and soaking up the sun. While there, many ventured to the Santa Monica Pier. Restaurants, an arcade, miniature golfing, street performances, a magic show, and rides are some of the attractions found on the pier.

The beach tour continued with a visit to Venice Beach. It is universally known that Venice Beach is also referred to as “muscle beach” because of the body building competitions held there. Unlike Santa Monica, the boardwalk was very crowded at Venice. There were many street performers at the beach – dancing roller skaters, musicians, and bodybuilders. Some students even tried surfing for the first time. “I just learned how to surf before I came out here. I thought it was really fun, so I wanted to teach others who were willing to try,” said Katie Collier.

Hanging out at the Beach was especially fun. Since it had been almost three years since I last visited a beach, I was ecstatic for this activity. Even if the beach is not for you, there are so many other forms of entertainment at Santa Monica and Venice. I hope to definitely come back some time in the future!
