Sports Nutrition
Use both glycogen (glucose) and fat (fatty acids) as fuels for exercise
Aerobic exercise uses more fat as a fuel compared to anaerobic exercise
Glycogen is stored in the liver and muscles
- we have a limited supply of stored glycogen, while we have an unlimited supply of fat
- want to maximize glycogen stores for both “sprint activities” and for endurance athletes
- endurance(aerobic) exercise will gradually begin using more fat and less carbohydrate (glucose) for energy
