INTRODUCTION

Kazem Alamdari has been teaching at CSLA, department of sociology, since 1988. CSLA is one of the most (if not the most) ethnically diverse campuses in the US. As an Iranian American, Kazem Alamdari’s ethnic background and living experiences in several countries and wide exposure to various cultures have provided him with multicultural perspective. This has characterized his classes with uniquely global approach and enlightening qualities.


TEACHING INTERESTS

Alamdari has been teaching the following courses: Principles of sociology, social change, classical sociological theory, contemporary sociological theory, society and individual development, social class and inequality.


RESEARCH INTERESTS

Alamdari’s latest book titled: "WHY IRAN LAGGED BEHIND & THE WEST MOVED FORWARD?", published in Tehran-Iran (Gam-e Nov, 2000, 568 pp.) is in its third edition in less than six months. Best seller book in Feb. 2001. The English version is in process. His primary research interests are social change and development, democratization and civil society building in developing societies particularly in Iran. He was a recipient of a research fellowship for carrying out a project in Japan (1998) to study the suitability of the Japanese model of development for the Middle Eastern countries.
