The CSULA String Ensemble, Chamber Music, Orchestral Performance and Practice, and Applied lessons formulate the core education for the String Program. Joint projects with vocal, wind, and contemporary music ensembles provide students with valuable education and performance experience that are essential to their music careers.

Friends of Music is the main organization that supports the Department of Music with merit-based scholarship. Scholarship for string students are designated each year, with Scholarship Audition planned on the first Friday of each April.
