The CSULA String Program distinguishes itself from its collegiate peers with a structured curriculum that is designed to make high quality music education accessible to a larger community and expedite students' learning progress. Students in the String Program are taught by our distinguished faculty members, engaged in rigorous individual and ensemble classes, featured in regular public performance, and assessed systematically in a progressive curriculum. String Guest Artist Series and Chamber Artist Concerts supports on-campus master-classes and performances by world-renowned guest artists , broaden academic learning spectrum. The CSULA String Ensemble, Chamber Music, Orchestral Performance and Practice, and Applied lessons formulate the core education for the String Program. Joint projects with vocal, wind, and contemporary music ensembles provide students with valuable education and performance experience that are essential to their music careers. Friends of Music is the main organization that supports the Department of Music with merit-based scholarship. Scholarship for string students are designated each year, with Scholarship Audition planned on the first Friday of each April. Application to Friends of Music Scholarship can be obtained from Department of Music Office. Application due each April 1st. Friends of Music (FOM) scholarships are available to Cal State LA students who major in music, are enrolled full-time, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Typically, FOM scholarship recipients are students who excel academically and are developing their musical talents. Currently endowed string scholarships are:
President’s Scholar is university-level competitive scholarship that offers several $20,000 scholarships ($5,000 per year, that may be renewed for up to three additional years), to selected California high school seniors demonstrating high achievement, motivation and a commitment to education.
