Matthew Elgart has received numerous awards
and grants including the National Endowment for the Arts America Touring Roster
and the California Arts Council Touring Grants. Mr. Elgart’s performances have
taken him all over the world, including Western Europe, Brazil, and the United States. In 1975, Mr. Elgart, along with Peter Yates, founded the Elgart/Yates
Guitar Duo. His publications include “Left: for Four Guitars" published by
California Guitar Archives (Los Angeles 1993), Prepared Guitar Techniques,
a book published by California Guitar Archives (Los Angeles 1990), and a
transcription for two guitars of “March, Waltz, and Polka” by Igor Stravinsky,
published by J & W Chester/Edition Wilhelm Hansen, London, for distribution
abroad. His recordings are available on Bridge Records, TR Records, and Stately
Rage Records. Mr. Elgart teaches guitar and guitar ensemble at California State University, Los Angeles, Santa Monica College, and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He has given numerous master-classes in the United States and Europe.
