Chamber Music

CSULA Chamber Music Program is a standard ensemble requirement for students of orchestral instrument and piano. It is closely linked with each applied instrument studio, and consists of 15-30 students during any given academic quarter. The Chamber Music Program provides numerous performances on campus throughout every academic year, with student ensembles like duet, trio, quartet, quintet, and larger mix ensemble. Since its re-organization at 2004, the Chamber Music Program is coordinate by Prof. Jay Zhong. It includes three academic courses: MUS 420A String Ensemble, MUS 420B Guitar Ensemble, and MUS 485 Chamber Music. String Ensemble class is primary training vehicle for string chamber music, involving strings-only repertoire; Guitar Ensemble, directed by Dr. Matthew Elgart , is ensemble designed for guitarists; Chamber Music class allows students to learn mix-instrumental ensemble, and it is open to all applied students, including vocal and keyboard students.  Student in the CSULA Chamber Music Program are highly encouraged to take applied lessons to assist their study of chamber music repertoire.
