Currently teaching EDCI 300 courses, for the new SB2042 teaching credential and critical thinking for educators. I am a graduate of the Urban Learning Program here at CSULA, hold a Master's degree in Educational Foundations and a Ph D. in Education from Claremont Graduate University
I am certified in GIS software systems and am very interested in how technology empowers people. As teachers we have an obligation to incorporate and employ the methods, techniques and tools that can help our students succeed in their educational endeavors. Through the use of technology we can level the playing field for ALL students and in doing so provide better and manifold opportunities for them as they go forth in life.
My main area of study is pre-service teachers and their interactions with technology and science. Their beliefs in the importance of its use and application as an area of study, a tool for research and for its importance in the curriculum. The issue regarding the teaching of evolution as a theory and a fact was the focus of my dissertation. I have long held the belief that the individual persons' (especially in the role of teacher or student) inability to adequately resolve their own interpersonal conflicts regarding the factual authenticity of the theory of evolution can lead to an aversion or avoidance of the study of science and that this has been reflected in our nation's dismal performance academically, and in the low number of students who choose careers in science.
