Bloom’s Taxonomy Level-Synthesis
Materials: Science Journals, Insects and Their Relatives book, chalkboard, overhead projector, overhead of “Ant Anatomy” worksheet, “Ant Colonies” worksheet.
Time: 40 minutes
Introduction: To start the lesson the teacher will quickly review what an insect is with the class. The students may look at their science journals if they do not remember what an insect is. The teacher will answer any questions the students have regarding insects. The teacher will then explain to the students that they are going to observe various insects throughout the next two weeks, beginning with the ant.
Development: The teacher will read “Ants” (page 46-47) from the book.
-During the reading the teacher will stop numerous times to write important
information about ants on the chalkboard.
-After the reading the students will copy the information on the chalkboard
into their
science journals.
-The teacher will then use the overhead projector to explain the ants
body to the class.
-The teacher will call on students to help fill in the overhead.
Closure: The teacher will then assign the “Ant Colonies” worksheet.
The students will have time to complete the worksheet in class. If
the worksheet is not finished at the end of the day the students will complete
it for homework.
Assessment: I will assess the students enthusiasm and knowledge
of ants during the overhead lesson and by checking their journals to see
if they have the correct information in them. I will also assess
the students by grading the “Ant Colonies” worksheet.
