Adaptations

Objectives: SWBAT- List our five senses.
           - List various plant and animal adaptations.
           - Draw correlation’s between our five senses and the adaptations    animals have made through these senses to survive.

Materials: Posters of animals, magnetic pictures that represent the five senses.

Prompts: 5 senses pictures on board, and the book Henry and the Red Stripes.

Procedure: Read book. Start discussion about our five senses.
         Talk about how animals are able to trick our five senses to stay alive.
          - Animals can protect themselves if they are fast or strong.
          - BUT a lot of animals are not....What do they do??
 SIGHT  SOUND SMELL  TOUCH TASTE
        Camouflage           deer             skunk           thick skin monarch
          lizards     owl          baby deer or shell            toad

Closure: Come together, make chart.

Assessment: In Science journal. Adaptations for self defense. Think of a way an    animal has developed to keep himself safe and draw a picture for    each of the five senses.
