Topic: Ways to Reduce Pollution
Grade: Sixth
Time: 40 minutes
Materials: Non Point Pollution fact sheet, What you can do transparency, What's wrong worksheets.
Objectives:
1. Students will recall the types of pollution we have covered.
2. Students will write ten things they can do around home
or community to reduce pollution.
3. Students will evaluate actions people have taken to cause
pollution and waste resources.
4. Students will write their observations of poor actions and
how it effects the environment.
Procedures:
1. The teacher will ask each students to name one type of pollution
we talked about and give an example. (ex. water pollution &
oil spills). (5 minutes)
2. The teacher will read the information and discuss the Non
Point Pollution Fact Sheet. (10 minutes).
3. Students will break up into pairs and make a list of ten things
they can do around the home or community to reduce pollution.
(10 minutes)
4. Each student will be given a copy of What's wrong with this
Picture Worksheet. Each students will identify and write
the action that is wrong and how it effects the environment.
(15 minutes)
Assessment: 1. Students will be given a participation grade for identifying
a type of pollution and giving an example.
2. Students will be given a check plus, check minus, check for
identifying the action and effect on the environment in the
What's Wrong picture.
