  • it presents information clearly and appropriately for the audience it is intended
  • it uses only correct XHTML
  • it uses graphics and multimedia
  • follows usability guidelines
  • has elements of graphic design
  • has a reasonable navigation device

Requirements and Grading

The grading of this course involves these components: Exams, Assignments, Project, and Participation.

Exams

There will be one mid-term and one comprehensive final exam.

Exams are closed book, closed notes and individual. Topics to be on exams will be covered in class discussions and completely defined before each test.

Assignments

There will be an assignment every week due always before the begining of the class.

Late assignments are not accepted for any reason.

Students will be called ramdomly to explain their assignment to the class on the day it is due. If you are not able to explain what you did correctly or are not present when you are called, 50% will be deducted from the assignment's grade.

All assignments and documents must be sent by email ONLY, to me, before the begining of the class when it is due unless it is annouced otherwise. Paper will not be accepted.

The subject of the email message containing your assignment must follow the following pattern: class, name, assignment number

Examples:
CIS461, John Smith, assignment 1

If you send your assignment as an attachment, the name of the attached file must follow the following pattern: assignment_NN. Where NN is the number of the assignment. For example "assignment_01", "assignment_02", etc.

If you do not follow these guidelines your assignments will not count. No exceptions and no excuses.

Choose a version of your name and use always the same for the rest of the course.

If you don't follow this pattern your assignment will not be counted.

The mail containing the assignment must contain the full assignment. If you send the assignment in several messages only the first received will count

I won't open attachments that are not either txt, htm or html. In general I won't open doc attachments. If you send your assignment as a doc attachment it will not count unless we have agreed before hand that it is ok to send Word documents.

Email communication

Please always use the string CIS461 in the subject of your email messages to me. Otherwise expect it to be lost.

The university expects you to use your NIS account for all official communications.

Participation

Students are expected to enrich the course through relevant questions and contributions of personal knowledge and experience. Active participation in class discussions is therefore an important component of this course. Regular attendance and promptness is required. Attendace may be taken during the first few minutes of the class. Note that attendance is distinct from participation but it will count for the same category. If you are often not present at the time attendance is taken you probably will not get the full credit for participation. If you never participate in class it will be harder for you to get an A in the course.

Academic honesty

Trying to pass work by others (either classmates, books or web resources) as your own without attribution, and cheating are considered dishonest and unacceptable.   If you are caught, and somebody always is each term, the least that will happen is that you will get a zero in the exam or assignment involved.

Grades

Grades will be assigned based on the following weights:

Participation: 5%
Project 20%
Assigments: 25%
Mid-term exam: 25%
Final exam: 25%
Letter Grades

Letter grades will be assigned using the following scale:

Letter

A 93-100
A- 90-92.9
B+ 87-89.9
B 83-86.9
B- 80-82.9
