MATH 15 - SECTION 6628
Spring 2012Mathematics for Liberal Arts Students:
Course Description: One of the main goals of this course is to create a positive attitude towards mathematics. Mathematics is not an endless procession of dull manipulations, theorems, proofs, and “irrelevant” topics. The purpose of the course is not to present the technical details needed to proceed to the next level, but to give insight as to what mathematics is, what it attempts to accomplish and how mathematics thinks.
With this in mind, this course will deal with the skills and techniques for problem solving, mathematical methods and reasoning, including the real number system; geometry and logic; sets and counting; introduction to probability and statistics; and financial management.
Prerequisites: Math 131 or Math 132C at Pasadena City College (C or better) OR Placement based on Math assessment process.
