Department of Nursing Jane Hook

Jane Hook has been a registered nurse for twenty-years. She has spent this time in critical care nursing roles. She is a cardiopulmonary clinical nurse specialist who has been teaching undergraduate nursing for five years. She began her academic teaching career at The University Of Southern California Department of Nursing, where she was awarded the Senior Clinical Teaching award in 1994-5 and 1995-6. Prior to that time, she was a population-based clinical nurse specialist for the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Southern California. She served as a manager of a regional burn center for five years. In addition, she managed a sub-intensive care unit for three years. She has lectured extensively to lay and nursing audiences on injury prevention and critical care nursing. She has been an expert witness to the state senate in support of legislature to support burned children. Jane began her career at CSULA in the summer of 1998.
Jane is a medical-sugical lecturer and clinical instructor. In addition, she has taught health assessment, leadership, case managment and critical care nursing. She is currently involved in creating a web-assisted course to enhance the educational experience of students in the undergraduate nursing case management course.
In 1992, Jane participated in research comparing life quality of medically-managed failure patients to heart transplant recipients at the UCLA Heart Failure program. Jane's research interests still include heart failure as well that of life quality, and health promotion. Representative Professional Activities
