FIN 205 (Legal and Regulatory Envirionment of Business I) Course SYLLABUS
 

Course Objective

(1) Develop a basic understanding of selected areas of the law which have significant influence on business; and
(2) Learn to analyze the facts of selected busines and personal transactions and anticipate potential problems.
 

Prerequisite

Sophomore standing or above.

Class Meetings

Class is scheduled to meet two times per week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 4:10 p.m. You
        are expected to attend class, and unexcused absences will jeopardize your course grade. (Absence from
        any five sessions will result in the loss of one grade letter.)  Please inform parents and others to schedule
        airline arrivals on other than those time frames.

Examinations

Examination No. 1 will most likely cover Chapters 1, 3, 4, and 5 in the course text.  Examination No. 2 will
         probably cover Chapters 6, 7, 8, 13, and 14.  Examination No. 3 (Final) will then likely cover
         Chapters 2, 9, 10, 11, and 15.

Each examination will consist of objective questions (true-false and multiple-choice), for which you are to use
        a Scan-Tron form 882-ES and a No. 2 pencil, and from one to three essay qwuestions.  You will need
        a Bluebook, with all pages intact,   for each examination.

In an emergency, if it should be necessary to miss an examination at the scheduled time, it may be made up during
        the instructor's office hours provided it is done so within one week following the scheduled time, and provided
        the student receives permission from the instructor at or prior to the scheduled time.

After review of exams during class all exams must be returned to the instructor for filing.

Course Grades

Grades will be assigned on a percentage basis (90% or above is an "A", 80% or above is a "B", etc.). At the
        instructor's discretion, grades may be curved at the end of the course.
 

Class Participation

Ten percxent of each student's grade will be based upon the instructor's subjective evaluation of the student's
        participation and contributions to course information through classroom discussion.  Such participation may
        consist partially of input based on analysis and/or experience, and any reports the student may wish to make
        re current events and developments in busieness law.

Class Policy

1.  Only "silent" beepers are permitted in the classroom.  Please turn off all cellular telephones or leave them outside
          the classroom.
2.  Tape recording will be permitted with the written permission of the instructor. Inquire at instructor's office for
          authorization form.
3.  No unauthorized materials, including dictionaries, will be permitted in the classroom during examination periods.
          Examinations will be graded only on the basis of the student's individual performance.
