FIN 339 (Real Estate Practice) Course SYLLABUS
Prerequisite
FIN 338 (Real Estate Principles) and Junior standing or above.
Course Objectives
Develop a basic understanding of the basic functions of real estate licensees and their business activities.
Course Text
Pivar, Anderson, and Otto, California Real Estate Practice, 5th Ed., Dearborn Real Estate Education.
Class Meetings
Class is scheduled to meet two times per week on Wednesday evenings
from 6:10 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. and from
8:15 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
You are expected to attend class, and excessive absences will jeopardize
your
course grade. (Absence from
any five sessions will result in the loss of one grade letter.) Please
inform
parents and others to schedule
airline arrivals on other than Thursday evenings.

Examinations
Examination No. 1 will most likely cover Chapters 1 thru 8, real estate
mathematics problems, and
lecture materials.
Examinationin No. 2 (Final) will probably cover Chapters 9 thur 15 and
lecture
materials.
Each examination will consist of objective questions (true-false and
multiple-choice), for which you are to use a
Scan-Tron form 882-ES and
a No. 2 pencil, mathematical calculations, and one or more essay or
problem questions.
In an emergency, if it should be necessary to miss an examination
at the scheduled time, it may be made
up during the instructor's
office hours provided it is done so within one week following the
scheduled
time, and provided
the student receives permission from the instructor at or prior to the
scheduled time.
After review of exams during class all exams must be returned to the instructor for filing.
Course Grades
Grades will be assigned on a percentage basis (90% or above is an "A",
80% or above is a "B", etc.). At the
instrtuctor's discretion,
grades may be curved at the end of the course.
Class Participation
A portion of each student's grade will be based upon participation in
class discussion of course materials. Individual
contrilbutions will be encouraged.
It should go without saying that you will have to be present in class in
order
to participate.
Term Paper
Each student is required to prepare and submit a term paper on or before
April of the quarter (see following
Course Outline). Ten
percent of the score will be deducted for each week or portion thereof
that submission
is delayed. Subject
of the pa0pers will be assigned by the instructor during the first class
meeting of the
quarter. Papers will
be at lteast six to eight pages, if typewritten, or at least twelve pages,
if handwritten.
Content, as it relates to
explaining the assigned aspect of real estate practice, will be the primary
consideration
in grading the papers, but
composition and/or subsstantial similarity to other papers submitted will
be
considered in the final
analysis.
Class Policy
1.Only "silent" beepers are permitted in the classroom.
Please turn off all cellular telephones or
leave them
outside the classroom.
2.Tape recording will be permitted only with the written
permission of the instructor. Inquire at instructor's office
for form.
3.No unauthorized materials will be permitted in the classroom
during examination periods. Examinations will be
graded only on the basis of each student's
individual performance.
