DHS Scholarships
An integral part of the BioSecurity
Research and Education Programs at Cal State LA is the awarding
of DHS (Department of Homeland Security) BioSecurity
Scholarships to highly motivated undergraduates (or incoming
undergraduate students) at Cal State LA who are committed to a
career in homeland security fields, in particular Biological
Security.

accepted on an ongoing basis for unfilled positions
Scholarship Information:
Ø
Total Number of Scholarships: 6 (for three years)
Ø
Program Dates: May 1, 2009 – April 30, 2012
Ø
For undergraduate students only
Ø
Stipend: $9,000 annually or $750 per month
(potentially renewable)
Ø
Commitment: Minimum one year program participation
Ø
Partial tuition reimbursement depending on
availability of funds
Ø
Travel: Limited support for traveling to national
conferences
Ø
Summer internships: each student will have an
opportunity to intern at Los Alamos National Laboratory
Eligibility:
Ø
U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Ø
GPA of 3.0 or higher
Ø
Currently full-time undergraduate students at Cal State LA
majoring in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics) fields, or
full-time students at a community college or high school
(senior) who intend to apply for admission at Cal State LA.
Ø
Demonstrated interest (through essays and/or
course selection) to pursue a career in homeland security
related sciences or engineering fields.
