INTRODUCTION

I am originally from Kiev, Ukraine. Right after I finished High School, my family and I moved to the United States (1992). I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from UCLA in 1999 and received my Ph.D. from UCLA in June of 2004. This is my ninth year teaching here at Cal State LA. I enjoy teaching and having many students at my office learning mathematics.

RESEARCH

My research has been in the branch of Real Analysis, dealing with Partial Differential Equations. Also, recently I have served as a Principal Investigator for the Mathematics and Science Partnership (MSP - Start) A^3 (Active Approach to Algebra) Project, sponsored by the NSF. A^3  was geared at developing a close partnership between California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) and the Montebello Unified School District (MUSD). This two-year project focused on partnership-building, data collection and analysis, and the implementation of comprehensive evaluation measures. The ultimate goal of the A^3 project is to improve the teaching and learning of algebra at MUSD high schools.
