INTRODUCTION
I am originally from Kiev, Ukraine. Right after I finished High School, my family and I moved to the United States (1992). I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from UCLA in 1999 and
received my Ph.D. from UCLA in June of 2004. This is my seventh year teaching
here at Cal State LA. I enjoy teaching and having many students at my office
learning mathematics. Feel free to stop by to say "Hello" and to check out the
photos of the smartest and the most beautiful baby in the world ( :)) -- my
little son Sasha, who was born on December 1st, 2006.

RESEARCH
My research has been in the branch of Real Analysis, dealing with Partial
Differential Equations. Currently, I am also interested in studying and researching ways students learn mathematics and respond to methods of effective teaching.
I currently serve as a Principal Investigator for the Mathematics and Science
Partnership (MSP - Start) A^3 (Active Approach to Algebra) Project, sponsored by
the NSF. A^3 will develop a close partnership between California State
University, Los Angeles (CSULA) and the Montebello Unified School District
(MUSD). This two-year project will focus on partnership-building, data
collection and analysis, the implementation of comprehensive evaluation
measures, and the development of an action plan which includes Professional
Learning Communities. The project will culminate with a full MSP Targeted
proposal which will be designed to improve the teaching and learning of algebra
at MUSD high schools.
