Everybody knows that Columbus discovered America. How, then, did Amerigo Vespucci's name come to be applied to the continents of North and South America? Why were they not named North and South Columbia or North and South Christo after Christopher Columbus? In order to answer these questions we must compare the lives of Vespucci and Columbus.
