The Pacific Coast Region

Dude! You've come to the Pacific Coast Region. However, don't be fooled! This region has more than just beautiful beaches. In this area you will find two mountain chains that are separated by long valleys. The mountain ranges are the Cascades and the Sierra Nevedas.

The Cascade Range has many inactive volcanoes. However, in 1980, Mt. St. Helens in Washington did erupt. It spread a layer of ash for hundreds of miles. The highest peaks in this mountain range have snow and ice on them year round.. In many places, the lower mountain slopes are covered with thick forests.

The Sierra Neveda Range is 400 miles long! It is the result of a huge block of stone tilting upward through the earth. In the southern part of this range you find Mount Whitney, the tallest mountain in the continental United States!
